Ever Have one of Those Days?

Ever have one of those days?
When you  have the glorious plan, and then it just starts going to hell heading south?

Me, too. Here is one of my favorite red hot sci fi romances, Heart of Stone. It was originally posted as a Free Read on Samhain Publishing's old 'Samhellion' site.

That site is gone, so I took my story down, completely re-wrote it (30K instead of 15K)--with even more red hots, had it professionally edited at RedCircleInk, formatted it for e-book and had this gorgeous cover created by Gilded Heart Designs.

I wrote the story as a Free Read, so I wanted to post it everywhere on the web as a Free Read.

Helllooooo, Amazon. Indie authors are not allowed to set a price to free. And if the book is posted for their lowest price, .99, and posted free elsewhere, Amazon will not be happy.

So here's the deal. I'd really love lots of readers to find this story. For the next 90 days, Heart of Stone will be available on Amazon for .99. For 5 of those days, it will be an Amazon Free Read. I'll keep you posted on when that will happen.

At the end of that time, come more hell or high water, the story will be available Free for the rest of its eternal life. Even if it's not available ... you know where.

Hope you're having a fabulous week! I'm going back to my imaginary world, where I'm in control.

best,
Cathryn

Put Your Promise in a Time Capsule

Hello all –

This is a fun post suggested by Kate Evangelista and I thought I would do a post of my own. Please leave me a comment!

Make yourself a post so your friends can leave you a message in the comments section with their thoughts about you, their wishes for you for next year, etcetera. In the post itself, leave a message for yourself... anything you can look back on next year and reminisce about. On January 10th, 2013, edit the post to Saved As Draft. In December of 2013, re-publish the post so you can look through your old comments from the year before and see the difference a year makes. On the post, you must add the HTML of the original meme from Dreamwidth (must give credit where credit is due).

Here's my message:
Warning: Red Hot Romance
Author - keep one of these
handy!

Hi, Cathryn

What a year 2012 has been. You finally took the big leap from teaching and writing to full-time romance author! Little did you know how exciting it would be or how much your writing would grow.

You knew you wanted to write full time, but you had no idea how hard you would work to balance creating, business and promotion.

You're scared that you'll lose your way in this new world, but no matter what, you know you'd never miss this journey.

Since you moved home to Montana this summer, you've missed your Rose City Romance Writers in Portland, altho you stay in touch online. You met the energetic, talented Montana Romance Writers, and even attended the mini-con at Fairmont Hot Springs in September.

You went to Emerald City Con in Seattle, to learn about self-publishing and promotion. You had fun networking with your friends, but you resolve to be more organized next year, and make appointments with the writers whom you want to connect at a con.

You've just finished your 4th Hawaiian Heroes book. Burning up the Rain may just be the best of the series, and you were sad to say Aloha to Nawea Bay, especially as you know a real visit to Hawaii probably isn't in the cards this year. But you also know the Ho'omalus, their powers, and their aloha spirit will always be part of you.

This fall, you stretched yourself! You took Carol Hughes' fabulous Deep Story class, and you know the pacing Hollywood screenwriters use to create blockbusters will revolutionize your writing. You've already plugged it in to the WriteWayPro program and used it to deepen your WIP and to plan and plot 2 new series for 2013! Your writing is so much faster and more on track now.

You've finished re-writing your Free Read Heart of Stone with RedCircleInk EditingGilded Heart Design created a gorgeous new cover, and you're so excited to self-publish this novella and Heart of Steel that you can hardly sit still.

You're hoping planning that 2013 will be your best year yet as an author. You plan to finish 6 books, let even more readers know about your writing, and take advantage of the new opportunities for romance writers that are popping up every day--audio books, international distribution, and book trailers.

You're excited, but nervous. Can you write 2 different series simultaneously? In 2 different romance genres? You believe you can, because altho Club 3 is contemporary and The LodeStar Series is sci fi, they are both erotic romance, with the Cathryn Cade stamp of red hot romance with some adventure, danger and laughter in the mix.

You're also the new Night Owl Reviews Magazine Romance Zone columnist. You're having a ball writing the column, and hearing back from romance readers.

I can't wait to hear from you at the end of 2013. What have you accomplished? Did you meet your goals or surpass them? What do you dream and plan for 2014?.

Sincerely,
Cathryn Cade  of 2012

Wrapping up My Creative Passions

In 2013, I resolve ... to take time for my Other Creative Passions!

I love to write romance. Love it, love it, love it. But as a creative person, I also have other loves.

And I do believe that we should use the talents God gave us, and not hide them under a bushel.

Sketching - put a piece of pastel (oil chalk) in my hand, or even a #2 pencil, and I'm going to doodle. Whether just a curly design with a flower in the center, or the head of the person sitting next to me, something is going to appear on my paper.
And it's so easy. I could do it every day, or at least one or two days a week.

Quilting - What is it about taking jewel toned bits of fabric, and sewing them together in designs? Stars are my favorite, and there are an infinite number of possibilities. I love to make quilts of all sizes. Even entered one in the Coeur d'Alene fair several years ago and won a ribbon--woot!
I've been neglecting this craft for a while, so I'll start small. At a Christmas art sale at the small but jewel-like Holter Art Museum and Gallery here in Helena, MT, I saw free-form quilted potholders. Each one was a small work of art, and the creator was selling her big wall quilts for thousands, so she's good.
I may not approach her artistry, but I'm going to try my hand at a little art quilting. I'll let you know if it works, lol!

There are other creative arts I enjoy, but with all the writing I have planned for 2013, I think these two will keep me busy.

How about you? What creative arts do you love?

Maybe you just love to wander through galleries and museums. Is it time to take time for art in your life?

And don't forget to stop by the other Resolution Tour blogs, and see how my friends are going to handle their New Year Resolutions.

best,

Cathryn Cade

Resolve 2013: Photography And Other Creative Passions
Susan Lute

Here's something no one knows about me. When I was a young married woman – we won't say how young - the Mr. used to haul me around perched on his shoulders. I know, but I was very tiny then. Anyway, we'd go all over talking about my dream to become a photographer. Back then it wasn't as easy as it is today. There were darkrooms and negatives and big clunky cameras. Now that I think about it , my parents gave me my first box camera when I was eleven. I still have the pictures I took with it and maybe the camera itself tucked away safe.

Jamie Brazil's Other Creative Passions

Happy New Year!
Today author Jamie Brazil joins us
to dish about the other creative passion that she always makes time for...

Author Jamie Brazil
Title: A Stitch in Time…

Not many people know this about me, but I sew.  I love sewing.  Probably because it has to do with clothes.  Another love of mine.

Like many women, my mother taught me to sew.  Sewing, it seems to me, is part of the whole (old school) Slavic-female culture.  Not sewing is not an option.  My mother’s mother, Baba, taught her to sew.  There’s sewing history here.  I own, and sometimes wear, a 1960s flannel shirt my Baba made for my Didi (Grandfather).  Somewhere in my mother’s cedar chest is Baba’s silk wedding gown.  Home-sewn in 1916.

Is it only tradition?  No.

Creative Passions with Maggie Jaimeson

Meanwhile, I'm over @ Linda Mercury's Blog  talking about how I Live the Literary Life, and you can too!

'Diversity Provokes Serendipity'

Creative people sometimes have a hard time diversifying their passions. For many years, my novel writing was my ONLY Creative Passion.

Because I worked full-time in another profession, I felt I only had time for one creative endeavor. I gave up singing in the choir. I gave up sewing (I used to make my own clothes). I gave up acting—even in small community theater.

It’s true that my time was extremely limited. However, I formed a habit of not doing anything else in order to focus my outside time on writing.

What are your thoughts on my New Year’s resolution to Take Time for Other Creative Passions?

Jessa Slade

Jessa says, "Writing is my first and deepest creative passion. I’ve given up a lot in order to focus on that love. I don’t paint or draw anymore. I do very little photography. I wish I could dance more. The bittersweet reality is, I don’t have enough hours in my life to do all the things I would love to do.

Paty says, "Bold Colors Spark my Creativity.

Over the years I’ve had many creative passions. Several of them I can no longer do, thanks to all the typing I do for writing.  Cake decorating and crocheting  were a couple that I enjoyed. But my wrists can’t take the extra stress beyond my typing.

What are your thoughts on my New Year’s resolution to Take Time for Other Creative Passions?

Jenna: I call this filling the well. For me, I have to do creative things in order to be creative on the page. I find if I get stuck writing until my brain goes to mush, I can’t go on. There is no pushing through it. There is no more to give.

Resolution Tour Begins!

Happy New
    Year!

Time to Rock it!

In 2013, I resolve ... to take time for my Other Creative Passions!

To help me get started, my friend,

Cassiel: It seems one of the most common resolutions for New Year’s always involves some form of time management and organization. Finding and taking the time to do the things you want to do. Time for vacation. Time for family. If you are an author, it’s: Time for writing. Time for promoting. And so on.

Authorities talk about how time can be gained by organizing yet how many of us actually do that?

One of Cathryn’s resolutions involves time to do other creative pursuits. As if there are other things besides writing and reading. Okay, okay, I know there are. So, how does a busy woman find and take the time?
