NEW Release from Author Veronica Scott

Welcome, SFR Author Veronica Scott!

Veronica writes stellar adventure, which happens to be set in space - but I recommend for any reader who simply loves a great story with adventure, suspense and romance!

Veronica says:
Thanks for having me as your guest, Cathryn.

I have three new releases in science fiction romance, each debuting about a month apart, and completely different in terms of the plot.

I love that an author can tell so many unique stories with an SFR flavor. Imagination is the outer limit!

My release for April is Star Cruise: Outbreak, in which I’ve explored one of my favorite tropes – a mysterious epidemic. Where did the disease come from, is there a cure, who’s going to live? And of course to make matters worse, the affected individuals are stuck on an interstellar cruise liner!

I started with the fact that in today’s world unpleasant norovirus outbreaks happen all the time on ocean cruises, where many people come down with a gastrointestinal bug but recover.

I pondered what if the seemingly benign-but-yucky illness was actually the start of something much, much worse?

After a lot of research into various earthly diseases, I came up with an alien ailment that combines deadly aspects of several real viruses and conditions. I decided my heroine Emily would be the ship’s doctor and the hero would be the head of security.

Both are military veterans and suffering from varying degrees of PTSD, so that’s an added complication for them to work through, as they handle the outbreak.  Jake, the security chief, gets frustrated at times that he can’t take any direct action to solve the crisis, but can only support Emily’s efforts. He’s ex-Special Forces, so being something of a bystander isn’t his style.

Of course I’ve written about an interstellar cruise ship before, in Wreck of the Nebula Dream, loosely based on the Titanic sinking, but that ship was destroyed. I don’t think it’s too much of a spoiler to say my new ship Nebula Zephyr survives!

I’m planning to write quite a few books set aboard the liner.

I want the ship to be my “village” for telling all kinds of exciting stories, blending romance and science fiction adventure. Between the crew, the ship’s Artificial Intelligence and the passengers, there will be quite a group of people to write about and many will be reappearing of course. In fact, I bring Meg and Red from Star Cruise: Marooned on board as secondary characters in this new book.

So I invite you to cruise among the stars on my Nebula Zephyr!

The story for Star Cruise: Outbreak:

She saved countless soldiers in the wars … but does she have the weapons to fight an outbreak?
Dr. Emily Shane, veteran of the Sector Wars, is known as “The Angel of Fantalar” for her bravery under fire as a medic. However, the doctor has her own war wounds--severe PTSD and guilt over those she failed to save.
Persuaded to fill a seemingly frivolous berth as ship’s doctor on the huge and luxurious interstellar cruise liner Nebula Zephyr, she finds the job brings unexpected perks--a luxe beach deck with water imported from Tahumaroa II, and Security Officer Jake Dilon, a fellow veteran who heats her up like a tropical sun.
However, Emily soon learns she and Jake didn't leave all peril behind in the war. A mysterious ailment aboard the Zephyr begins to claim victim after victim … and they must race against time and space to find the cause and a cure! Trapped on a ship no spaceport will allow to dock, their efforts are complicated by a temperamental princess and a terrorist--one who won't hesitate to take down any being in the way of his target.  If anyone's left when the disease is through with them …

Best-Selling Science Fiction & Paranormal Romance author and “SciFi Encounters” columnist for the USA Today Happily Ever After blog, Veronica Scott grew up in a house with a library as its heart. Dad loved science fiction, Mom loved ancient history and Veronica thought there needed to be more romance in everything. When she ran out of books to read, she started writing her own stories.

Three time winner of the SFR Galaxy Award, as well as a National Excellence in Romance Fiction Award, Veronica is also the proud recipient of a NASA Exceptional Service Medal relating to her former day job, not her romances!
She recently was honored to read the part of Star Trek Crew Woman in the audiobook production of Harlan Ellison’s “City On the Edge of Forever.”

Thanks so much for stopping by, Veronica! Always thrilled to bring new stories to my readers.

Stay tuned, readers - next week I'll be talking about my OWN up-coming release in the Kindle World of mega-talented SE Smith, award winning author of sci fi/fantasy!
