Fall into Red Hot Romance ... with me

Ah, Fall!

Such a gorgeous time of year.
The days turn cool, the nights cold and crisp.

The cottonwoods and aspen here in Montana have turned to gold, the nine-bark to burgundy, the maples in town to red and orange. Now the leaves are blowing  away in the wind, and the first snowflakes are beginning to fall.

Time to snuggle up with a hot drink
... and an even hotter romance.

I have to tell you, living in the northwest--
whether the Pac NW which my DH and I just
left, or back home here in the Big Sky Country ... I am used to loooong, cold winters. Great incentive to stay indoors and write a steamy romance to warm me up from the inside out! ;D

And read them, too. I've been enjoying my Kindle so much this fall. A girl can only write so many hours a day, you know. Then I recharge my romance batteries with a great read from another author. Or some time with my handsome DH, but that's another story.

Of course I also go to my local public library. Did you know most public libraries now have ebooks available? How cool is that? And inter-library loan, so you can get the books you really want to read. Many also have online reserve services, so you can hop on the waiting list when that new best-seller comes out.

Now why, you may ask, is an author touting borrowing books for free? Hey, reader, I know times are tough. And I grew up bringing home stacks of books from the library. All that reading helped boost me into a career as a school librarian, and then a second career as a writer.

I also happen to know that most library patrons are also book buyers. 40% of you are likely to find a great author at the library, and buy some of their books. That would be my history. Home in a small town in the Rockies with two little boys, I discovered many of my current go-to authors in weekly trips to the library for picture books for the boys, and romances for mommy.

My own books aren't in the library ... yet. Working on that.

But of course you can get them all online here. http://store.samhainpublishing.com/cathryn-cade-pa-351.html?PHPSESSID=a7ec480ea23720e66f13304b0d33cb02

They aren't free, but ebooks won't break the bank, either. And they don't take up much shelf space, lol. Gotta love that!

Hmmm ... speaking of FREE. Let's celebrate the debut November 6th of my latest red hot Hawaiian paranomal romance.

Leave a comment, and I'll enter you to win one of 5 FREE copies of the ebook, Hawaiian Heroes III; Blooming in the Wild.

Fresh Fiction calls Blooming in the Wild
"Sensuous and thrilling tale set amid the steamy jungles of Hawaii, where delicate blossoms assist lovemaking in delightful ways. Cade knows her location & drops some very real characters into these surroundings. I for one will be looking out for her next book!"

Who's Your Hero ... Bad Boy or Good Guy?

Night Owl Reviews Full Moon Scavenger Hunt
Hi, and welcome to my corner of the romance world.

When I read a romance, I love a BAD boy hero.

One who's gruff and growly with barriers a mile high, but hotter than a tropical sunburn, like Hawaiian Hero Daniel Ho'omalu in
Rolling in the Deep.

Or one who's smooth and sophisticated, and can have the heroine blushing hotter than ever before, like The Orion's Commander Navos in
Deep Indigo.

Because I know that along the journey to true forever love and romance, I'm going to squirm and  blush and probably cry right along with the heroine. I love to get really involved in the romances I read, and generally a NICE guy hero just doesn't do it for me. I wanna  suffer a little on the rocky road to romance. It makes the happy ending all the sweeter.

But ... groan, that's not always true.

Some of the nicest guys in the universe make the hottest heroes.

They're true blue and have the highest regard for women, yet their principles may be the rock the heroine stumbles upon, like The Orion's Captain Steve Craig in Her Commander.

Or they may be a big, laid-back guy like David Ho'omalu, the Hawaiian Hero of Walking in Fire. He just never met a pretty girl he couldn't charm right off her feet. He leaves them all smiling, of course.

But whether the hero is a bad boy or a good guy, I still want 'em NAUGHTY! I want them to show the heroine a red hot time in the bedroom, or wherever they happen to be when passion strikes.

And that's what you can expect when you read one of my stories, too. Because I write what I love to read.

I'd love to share a red hot romance with you.

Leave a comment here  and I'll enter you to win a FREE copy of any of my ebooks.

And ... psst! If you'd like to win much BIGGER prizes from me and many more fabulous authors, stop by Night Owl Reviews and join their scavenger hunt. You still have over a week to browse some great websites, and win prizes.

best,
Cathryn

Born to defend his people, he will sacrifice everything—for her.

Hawaiian Heroes, Book 1

Nawea Bay, a remote Hawaiian paradise, is just the haven Melia Carson needs to escape the chill of heartache. Instead, she finds herself swept up in a tropical heat wave, fueled by her unexpected attraction to a handsome native she meets on a snorkel tour.

He’s big, powerful, hot enough to melt her defenses—and he’s not all he seems. How else could he survive an injury that should have killed him…and why does she dream of him garbed in ancient native dress and wreathed in flames?

David “Malu” Ho’omalu is on the Big Island to find and destroy a cache of dangerous designer drugs before they can be sold to his people. Fending off amorous female tourists is part of the job, but one look in Melia’s blue eyes, and his instincts scream that she is his.

As Melia surrenders to the desire burning between them, she discovers more than a fiery heritage that defies modern logic. She discovers a man who would descend into the molten heart of the volcano to protect his island. And her…if she can find the strength to trust her heart to him.

One look at Daniel, and Claire Hunter knows she’s found the man of her sensual dreams. Without hesitation she sinks her teeth into the challenge of landing the big Hawaiian in her bed. But while he clearly wants her, he won’t bite back.

Daniel is certain the beautiful haole is too young and innocent to handle his dark sexual needs. Despite their determination to ignore each other, the island casts its spell, and in one explosive night, Daniel learns that Claire is more than a match for him in every way.

When Daniel must leave her side and dive to the depths of the sea to foil a gang of drug smugglers, Claire trusts that their powerful bond will bring her lover back safely to her arms. But his vow of honor to protect his people could be the one thing that breaks her heart.

Big Changes, Fast Company

Love this photo. I'm keeping some pretty fast company here.

That's me on the left, with Tawna Fenske, Kristina McMorris, Delilah Marvelle and Jessa Slade. All successful published authors who belong to the Rose City Romance Writers chapter of RWA.

I finally feel I really belong in this picture, because I did it. I quit teaching elementary library media to write full time!

Pinching self. Is this really me? Can't quite believe it's true.

I mean, it is June, which always means the cessation of my school year schedule - Up early and off to school. Teach all day, then stop by the gym on my way home, finally arrive home at about  tired out and ready to have dinner with the DH, and put my feet up with a glass of wine and a good book. But instead, head to my office for a couple of hours of writing, until my husband reminds me that I have to go to bed in order to get up the next morning and do it all again.

This summer, I've begun a new routine, and I could get to love this.

Up at about the time I would have been heading off to school, breakfast, strong coffee, and to my office to check in on social media and write until lunch time.  Lunch with my husband, then more social media and write for another hour or two. Go for bide ride, walk or to gym. Dinner, and then, since I am on deadline with Hawaiian Heroes, Book 3, back to social media and writing for another couple of hours.

I don't expect my schedule will always be this stringent. And I have not, to be really honest, held to it seven days a week. I mean, it is summer (part of the time, 'cause it's only June, and this is the Pacific NW). One Must Make Time for bike rides, long walks, leisurely meals on our deck to watch the birds who flock to the feeder and hang out in our trees.

And this last weekend my DH and I went out to the Oregon Coast. Fabulous. There is nothing like a walk on the beach, with sand underfoot, seabirds flying and the surge of the surf, deep and rhythymic and sure, to lower my tension and calm my soul.

Came home rejuvenated, a few pounds heavier from too much good food and Rogue micro-brew, and ready to get back to writing. And strangely without that panicky feeling of 'Time to check the calendar. Already been out of school for two weeks, so how many are left before I must go back?'

Not saying I don't have a panicky feeling about my writing deadline, but I can work with that. Because there is nothing, nothing, nothing that I would rather be doing full time than this.

And here's a shout out to my friend, Monica Knightley, as she begins her writing journey with a very nice compliment for me and a big decision for her on her very funny blog, Random Musings of a Fledgling Writer. I think you'll agree, can't wait for a book from her, whether it's Fifty Shades of Red, Green or some new color she hasn't invented yet.

This change of careers can only be good for me ... and I hope, for you.

I look forward to sharing so many more stories with you. Another change is racing toward me, but I'll share that another time.

For now, how about you? Summer bringing any big changes your way? If so, I hope they're good.

But if not, come on in. Lose yourself in a great tropical romance. Sigh, cry some tears along with the heroine, and hero, and smile as they get their happy ever after.

When you return to your life, I hope you'll be refreshed, rested and rejuvenated, yourself.

Best,
Cathryn

Spring has Sprung!

It's that time of year again in the Pac NW, when Mother Nature teases us with the promise of warm weather ahead, days of sunshine, puffy little clouds instead of a sky full of lowering, dark gray rainclouds.

The crocus and daffodils are nodding, bright clumps of purple and yellow, tulips are rising columns of green that will soon bud. Trees are beginning to bloom in clouds of pale pink and white that edge the streets I drive to shop and work. The buds on the rhodys are huge, ready to burst sometime next month.

I always get edgy this time of year ... fidgety. Ready to cast off my winter habits of cocooning with my computer, writing stories of exotic tropical locales to deny the cold winter outside. Ready to go for walks and bikerides out in the fresh air instead of to the gym to breathe damp, shared air. Ready to change up the decor in my house, put out the spring colors and pack away the darker winter shades of pillows and knick knacks.

This year I'm fidgety for a very special reason, as I get ready to unleash a new breed of hero on the world of romance readers. Time to shake off winter completely, and head for Hawaii for a sexy, fast-paced adventure.

Of course there'll be some lazy afternoons spent exploring the reef, and supper on the beach front lanai, too, complete with tiki torches and fresh mai-tais, you in your bikini and the guys in their swim trunks.

My Hawaiian Heroes, the Ho'omalu brothers are ready to saunter onto the hot, sunny beach nearest you. And reader, the warning on the first book, Walking in Fire is very apt--DO pack your heat proof bikini for this island paradise.

I'll see you there!

Aloha,
Cathryn

Happy Valentines Day!

Girlfriend,

It is a truth NOT unversally understood, that we should put ourselves first when it comes to those loving gestures we're supposed to make on Cupid's Day ... and every other day.

WHAT??

It's true. If we don't love ourselves enough to put ourselves first, in a positive way, then no one else will truly love us, either.

Oh, I'm not talking about buying yourself the biggest box of chocolates and bouquet of roses, and leaving no money to buy treats for your loved ones.

I'm talking about the things we women so often fail to give ourselves. Things we see the heroines of many of our favorite romances struggling for, and gaining.

Permission to Dream - go ahead, dream big! Then get your curvy butt in gear, and it may just come true. Did you know the author of The Help had her manuscript rejected over 50 times before a far-sighted editor finally snapped it up? Personally, my first manuscript was accepted, but that's because it took me 20 years (yes, count 'em) to get the courage to send my work to a publisher.

Humor - learn to laugh at your mistakes. My favorite saying has become 'Well, these things keep me humble'. I get to use it a lot more than I'd like, but it does help remind me to laugh when I do something dumb. We're human, we're gonna fail, sometimes epic-ly. If you laugh first, others are laughing with you, not at you.

Self-respect - You are worthy ... of respect, of love, of recognition. From yourself, and from those around you. Accept nothing less from yourself, and you'll learn to walk away from others who cannot or will not behave the same.

Finally, and this is the biggest on the list ...

Time - to exercise, to read, to window shop, to get a babysitter and have a girls' night out. To write a book if that's what you want to do. Anything important takes time. Give it to yourself, anyway you can.

And remember, God loves you just the way you are. You are a work in progress, and he sees exactly what is supposed to happen. I love the analogy that our lives are like a woven tapestry. We look up and see the messy, dangling threads underneath, but he looks down and smiles at the beautiful tapestry of our lives. One day he'll show it to us, but for now, keep weaving.

And treat yourself to whatever you need most ... even if it's just a little romance.

See you in a good book,
Cathryn
